2013 What a year for Teignmouth Sings!

What a year for Teignmouth Sings!

Teignmouth Sings has gone from strength to strength during the past year, as a result of the hard work put in by Jeff Hocking, our Musical Director, and our enthusiastic and committed members. We continue to add to our growing repertoire, and our performances are always well received.

We use our performances to support charities, and 2013 saw us help to raise funds for a variety of local, national and international charities. These included ‘Volunteering in Health’, when we sang at their Fun Day on the Den. This was our first outdoor performance of the year, and thankfully, it was a dry and bright day, but we had to battle with the breeze, as it whipped up our music scores!

July arrived, and with it came three performances, all well supported. The RNLI fundraising day at Cliffden was the first, when we sang a short selection. This was followed by a full evening of song at St Michael’s Church. What a fantastic evening we had, especially as we had soaring temperatures to contend with, in the summer heatwave! On the Den, for Teignmouth Carnival Week, we sang a programme of a few favourites, including highlights from Mamma Mia and Les Misérables.

Since our summer break, we have had the opportunity to perform to various audiences. We have sung at, what was for us, a new venue; Palace Avenue Methodist Church in Paignton. Our audience was very responsive and complimentary, and have invited our choir to return again this year. This was closely followed by our ‘fringe’ performance for the Teignmouth Jazz Festival, and our repertoire for the evening was linked (albeit loosely) to this musical genré.

Our Christmas performance, supporting Torbay Hospital League of Friends, was enjoyed by another new audience. We are happy that our choir has been invited to sing again for them.

Finally, we were asked, once again, to participate in the URC Carols by Candlelight Service, when we sang from our Christmas repertoire.

If you haven’t taken the opportunity to come along to one of our performances, please do! You may be inspired enough to join us. We have great fun and we’re always happy to welcome new members.
